Who’s Following Who
“Trust in the Lord completely, do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart, rely on Him to
guide you and He will lead you in every decision you make. Be with Him in whatever you do, and He will
lead you everywhere you go.” Proverbs 3:5-6
I recently made a comment to someone about time I wasn't completely following God’s leading and His
plan for my life. In other words, instead of seeking wisdom and guidance, I was making my own plans
and decisions and asking God to follow after me. I was asking Him to bless my mess! Time and time
again, God has said that He is the author of my story, and when I allow Him to lead, He brings a peace in
every situation that is unexplainable.
Following God requires trusting God. Many of us struggle in some ways to completely surrender trust.
Even when we decide to surrender, we might still find ourselves taking back a measure of control. We
rationalize, thinking that if it makes us happy, it must be God's will and part of His plan, but just because
it's a good thing doesn't always mean that it’s a God thing. When God goes before you, it means that He
clears obstacles on your path before you get there. If there is no way for you to walk through, He creates
a way for you or you will change your path completely.
Philippians 4:6 tells us to pray about everything. When we pray about everything, we allow God into all
aspects of our life. We place our hope and fears into the hand of God, which in turn calms our hearts
and minds and cultivates a deeper intimacy with Him. He tells us in His Word that He cares about
everything that we care about. He knows, and sees our struggles, and He’s aware of our weaknesses.
God is right there in the midst to guide us, teach us, and lead us if we will surrender to His plan.
